NOTE: You'll probably only find DVD-burners without a blocksize jumper and therefore with the new default blocksize predefined to 2048 bytes. Your SPARC's boot DVD drive _needs_ to be set to the same blocksize that had been used during burning. For IDE drives nothing needs to be done. For certain SCSI DVD-ROM drives you may need to UNset the blocksize jumper from "UNIX" or "SUN" to the new (PC-)default == 2048 bytes. Make also sure you upgraded to the latest OBP firmware. I don't know about possible compatibility issues if you burn it on a pc or even on M$-Windows. Here is what I did on my SPARCle-500SX via an USB2.0 connected external LG burner: (Thanks to Joerg Schilling for providing the world with his tools.) # bunzip2 ./DVD_sun4u_sparcv9__marTux_0.2__Blastwave_CSW_Edition__.iso.bz2 # cdrecord-ProDVD dev=2,0,0 -dao -eject driveropts=burnfree -v ./DVD_sun4u_sparcv9__marTux_0.2__Blastwave_CSW_Edition__.iso Installation to hdd is very easy: Just partition and label a spare disk, newfs it, installboot the box's appropriate bootblk and cpio the slice 5 of the DVD to a newly created slice of that disk, that's it. Then either explicitly boot the just created slice explicitly from the ok prompt or create a nvalias for ease of use.
